Who approves your fence?

HOA, city or county: how to tell which apply to your address around Fulshear, and who to call.

A fence near Fulshear can need approval from up to three places: a homeowners association, a city, and, outside city limits, the county. Start by working out which apply to your address.

Which rules apply to you

  1. Check your tax bill or appraisal district record. It lists the city (if any) and the county for your property. A Fulshear, Katy or Richmond mailing address does not mean you are inside that city.
  2. Check for an HOA. If you pay association dues or have deed restrictions, the association's design guidelines apply, and its approval usually comes first.
  3. Call the city or county to confirm whether your fence needs a permit, and ask about height, front-yard and pool rules.

What to ask

  • Do I need a permit for this height and material?
  • Are there front-yard or corner-lot height limits?
  • Which pool barrier code applies?
  • Do I need a survey or staking first?
  • How long does review take, and is there a fee?

For community-specific rules, see Fulbrook and Weston Lakes, where we could read the published standards, and Brookshire, which publishes a full fence ordinance.
