Pool fences

Fences that enclose the pool, meet the rules, and leave room for the pool builder to work.

A pool changes the fence plan. Pool barrier rules cover height, gaps, gates that close and latch on their own, and how the house and equipment fit in. HOAs add their own rules on top. Weston Lakes requires pools to be enclosed with self-closing gates; Fulbrook's guidelines say pool fences must meet government rules.

Plan it with the pool builder

  • Decide which existing fence runs will count as the pool barrier.
  • Leave construction access (a temporary opening or a double gate) until the pool is done.
  • Place gates where you walk, swinging the right way, with self-closing, self-latching hardware.
  • Ask your city or county which pool barrier code applies to your address, and get the HOA's approval.

Materials

Aluminum is the usual pool fence because it does not rust. Cedar privacy works where the pool should be private, as in the Fulshear jobs above.

Questions we hear

How long does a pool fence take?

Usually one to three days on site once approved and scheduled.

Can my privacy fence be the pool barrier?

Often, if it meets the height and gap rules and the gates self-close and self-latch. We check it during the estimate.
